Newsletter & Annual Report

Welcome to Cindy Turek our new Excecutive Director! Cindy Head ShotMessage from Cindy:
Thirty years ago New Beginning Center started the fight against domestic violence with the goal to make sure that every home in our community is a safe home. With the vision of just one woman, New Beginning Center has served thousands and thousands of families affected by abuse.  I am so pleased to be a part of that vision now and for many years to come. No family, no child, no woman or man should ever have to live in a place where they fear that they may not see the dawn of a new day. The fatality and life altering violence rate among victims of abuse is at an all time high. We are more determined than ever to eradicate this issue in our society. My years of experience in non-profit and for profit business sector will ensure not only fulfilling the mission of New Beginning Center but position us for growth. I am here to serve you and  the families of New Beginning Center. I look forward to working by your side as we fight this social epidemic together.
We have many opportunities to serve alongside one another ! If you would like to be a part of our events and activities, my door is open and I look forward to hearing from you!

Each month we introduce you to another member of our amazing team and learn more about what they do here at New Beginnning Center! This month we want you to meet Crystal Lopez – our BIPP Program ManagerWhat is a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP)?A BIPP is specialized group and individual counseling designed to hold perpetrators of domestic violence accountable for their behaviors and teach them how to make non-abusive choices. The primary focus of a BIPP is to increase victim safety and reduce battering.

Battering is a systematic pattern of using abusive behaviors (physical, sexual, verbal and emotional) that occurs over time. The goal is to control an intimate partner through fear.

Clients in a BIPP must:

  • Acknowledge to the group and themselves that they, and they alone, are responsible for their violence and abuse and that using violence is a behavioral choice.
  • Learn about the nature of domestic violence-its prevalence, causes and effects.
  • Identify their abusive behaviors, not just physical and sexual violence, but threatening, coercive, and manipulative behaviors as well.
  • Plan tangible steps to ensure their future non-violence by identifying nonviolent, non-abusive behaviors and practicing them during group sessions and with their partners.

Who is Appropriate for BIPP?

Any person who is abusive (physically, sexually, verbally and emotionally) towards an intimate partner (spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, dating relationship). The abusive behaviors are targeted at the intimate partner. Battering of an intimate partner is not an anger management problem, as a batterer is not likely to be abusive towards any other person.

We currently have 8 groups to include

1.    One (1) women’s BIPP group

2.    Three (3) parole groups

3.    Four (4) groups

4.    Starting a Spanish speaking group in the month of July

We serve approximately 250 individuals per year
